Happy Friday, my friends!
How’s the week?
Minus a basement pipe leak emergency things have been going along quite well over here. Even better is that today we can officially kiss winter GOODBYE. It may still be cold and there may be leftover dirty crunchy snow on the ground, but whatever! My calendar says it’s spring so I’m going with that!
So me –>
It’s no secret that during the winter we tend to crave heavier, heartier meals – and I’m all about that! But as the seasons change, so shall what we eat! Springtime means phasing out of winter eating mode, and lightening things up a bit. It’s a perfect time to press “Refresh!” on your diet and nutrition.
In doing this, you’re going to have to also spring clean your kitchen by taking stock of what’s in your pantry and fridge to set yourself up for success.
Ready? Let’s do it! Here are 5 ways to spring clean your diet!
1. Go Raw
Yayyy, salads! Springtime is the return of raw fruits and veggies. While throughout the winter you may have chowed down on some raw veggies here and there, now is the time to bring them back in full force. Swap out some roasted veggies or soups for salads, and start crunching on raw fruits and veggies for snacks! Cooked veggies are good for you, but raw veggies are better, because they maintain all of their awesome nutrients and digestive enzymes. When you eat raw fruits and veggies, you’re reaping the max nutritional benefit those beauties have for you!
2. Drink Water…All Day!
Guzzle the good ol’ H2O, folks! During the winter, I practically had to force myself to drink water because BRRRR. Now that spring is here, make sure you’re hydrated! Drinking enough water is essential to your overall health – and beauty! When you drink more water, your skin, hair, and nails feel the benefit too. So long to the dull and dry skin and hair of winter. Yes, please!
3. Smoothies and Juices
These yummy beverages are nutritional powerhouses and make for great snacks (if made correctly – watch the portion sizes of your ingredients and add-ins before the calories add wayyy up!) These drinks also give you a boost of energy when you’re feeling sluggish. Consider having a smoothie in the afternoons to add nutrients to your diet and also fend off those afternoon sugar (and nap!) cravings, rather than that extra cup of coffee.
4. Ditch Processed Foods
This could be an entire post (or series!) in itself, but we’ll stick to the basics. In winter, we tend to crave more carb heavy foods and more sugar. We don’t always look to the best sources to fill these cravings and our systems are probably pretty clogged up by the time spring rolls around! A good rule of thumb is not to consume anything with more than 5 ingredients and certainly don’t be consuming foods with a list of ingredients you can’t pronounce. Some products that you could limit this spring include granola bars, breakfast cereals, certain breads, flavored dairy, frozen meals, canned soups, packaged cookies and crackers…While this might not sound like a lot of fun, it’s well worth it. Plus, rather than avoiding foods you enjoy, make your own versions! You’d be surprised how easy it is to throw together your own granola bars and to flavor your own yogurt. You really don’t want to be carrying all that processed junk in your system into a new season!
This guide helps you cut out processed foods week by week!
5. Eat the Season
While winter foods are some of my faves, springtime produce has a lot to offer! When meal planning, focus on incorporating this season’s fruits and veggies. My faves are asparagus, artichokes, strawberries, broccoli, zucchini, pineapple, and strawberries. YUM! Phase out some of the winter produce you’ve been eating and make way for fresher flavors!

I hope you’re excited about the turning of the season as I am! I’m looking forward to a little “spring” in my step again, more time outdoors (more walks and runs!), less bulky clothing, and overall feeling FRESH, LIGHT, and ENERGIZED. Can I get an amen?
Your diet and nutrition play a huge role in how you feel so treat yourself to a lovely spring and clean up what you’re putting into your body!
